Day-by-day itinerary

Day1
Arrive Paro – Drive to Thimphu

Fly into Paro International Airport, one of the most scenic landings in the world. Your guide welcomes you with a traditional khadar (scarf) and you drive about 1.5 hours to Thimphu along the Paro Chhu river, stopping at Tachogang Lhakhang and its iron chain bridge. Evening free to explore Thimphu town. Overnight: Thimphu

Day2
Thimphu Sightseeing

Visit the National Memorial Chorten, the giant Buddha Dordenma overlooking the valley, the Motithang Takin Preserve, the Folk Heritage Museum and the Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students learn the 13 traditional arts. Late afternoon visit to Tashichho Dzong, the seat of government. Overnight: Thimphu

Day3
Thimphu – Dochu La – Punakha

Drive over Dochu La (3,100 m), where 108 memorial chortens frame views of the eastern Himalaya on clear days. Descend to the warm Punakha valley, visit Chimi Lhakhang (the fertility temple) through rice fields, and then the breathtaking Punakha Dzong. Walk across the Punakha suspension bridge before sunset. Overnight: Punakha

Day4

Morning hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten for valley views, then drive back to Paro. Visit Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum (Ta Dzong), and stroll through Paro's charming main street. Overnight: Paro

Day5
Tiger's Nest Hike

Today is the highlight: the hike to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest, clinging to a cliff 900 m above the valley (4–6 hours return). Stop for tea at the cafeteria viewpoint. In the afternoon visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples, and relax with an optional hot stone bath. Overnight: Paro
